The future isn’t set in stone; there are infinite possibilities ahead of us. In our mission to help others feel empowered in that knowledge, and inspired by Rob Hopkin’s brilliant book ‘What If?’, we began to share ‘What If’s?’ across our social channels. These questions may seem simple at first glance, yet they highlight transformative places to intervene within a system. They are seeds; catalysts for change.
We began asking these questions at the start of 2020 and little did we know how necessary these conversations would become as our world drastically changed a couple of months later. Our #ChooseTheFuture conversation series launched in April, amidst increasing uncertainty, reflection, and questioning about the world we would want to return to.
Our work has highlighted the many mental and structural barriers that inhibit people from imagining alternate futures, yet these personal, rich conversations began to alleviate some of the mental barriers to change. Throughout the difficult months in Lockdown, What If?’s became an antidote to anxiety, sparking curiosity, new ways of thinking and fuelling connection. Their ability to unlock further possibilities and mobilise society, an added bonus.
We’ve had some of our richest conversations throughout the last few months, as we’ve come together to explore our global and local challenges and their interconnected nature. You can find snippets from each conversation on Instagram. Big love to everyone who has gone down the rabbit hole with us so far.
